Athyrium niponicum 'Metallicum'

Athyrium niponicum 'Metallicum', commonly known as Japanese painted fern, is an evergreen fern with gracefully arching fronds displaying striking silver-grey tones with dark purple midribs and green margins. Its finely textured, delicate foliage forms a low, spreading clump that adds colour and architectural interest to shaded garden areas.

Although non-flowering, this fern provides shelter and microhabitats for small invertebrates, giving it ecological value in woodland and shaded gardens. Its low-maintenance habit and striking foliage make it ideal for woodland borders, shaded rock gardens, and underplanting beneath shrubs or trees.
